The Storm whistle made its debut on the silver screen in the movie Wild. Cheryl Strayed wrote the book Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail about how she found peace in her troubled life on eleven-hundred-mile hike down the Pacific Rim Trail. On the long journey, Cheryl carried a bright orange Storm whistle attached to her backpack as a safety talisman. It meant a lot to her and when they decided to make the book into a movie, Cheryl insisted they include the bright orange Storm whistle in the film.
