The drive from Chadron to Valentine Nebraska was a little less than three hours so we arrived early. That was the good news, the bad was that it took another hour to find the Penbrook campground. We finally found in a remote area near the bank of the Niobrara River Nebraska. The Niobrara is a swift river that goes right through the Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge.
We parked the Pup, cleaned up and organized a kayak float for the next day. We decided on the 15 mile float and, while being physically a true challenge, was great fun.
The kayaks were nice and we had a wonderful time during the float. Halfway through the trip we hiked to Smith Falls and had lunch. It was a day to remember.
Next stop, Custer State Park
